Diets don’t work.

Here’s the secret to weight loss: eat good food. We change our body chemistry every time we eat. Have some blueberries and kale salad. Grill a salmon. And make sure to eat some turmeric!

How Turmeric Benefits Weight Loss

Have you wondered how to use less salt in your food? Turmeric is the answer. It’ll spice up your meal and will probably help you lose weight.

Here’s why. Researchers have found that turmeric prevents angiogenesis1, the growth of blood vessels. Another piece of the puzzle is that anti-angiogenic drugs make mice lose weight. This could be true for humans as well.

What’s the Link Between Blood Vessels and Weight Loss?

Extra fat in your body is mostly stored in fat cells. Every cell in your body, including fat cells, need blood vessels to grow. If turmeric stops the growth of blood vessels to fat cells, that excess fat can’t be stored in your body.

So do we know for sure that eating turmeric helps you lose weight? Here’s the short answer: we know enough that I recommend you add turmeric to your diet.

Researchers at Tuft University found that mice which were fed turmeric were slimmer and had higher metabolism. More research has to conducted on older mice, in different settings, and eventually with humans before we can be sure if turmeric has weight loss benefits. However, turmeric has enough health benefits that I make a point of adding turmeric to my diet.

The Many Other Health Benefits of Turmeric

1. Reduce inflammation

Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory. That’s significant because most chronic diseases are caused by inflammation. Eating anti-inflammatory foods will give your immune system a power boost and reduce the stress on your body.

2. Reduce the symptoms of ulcerative colitis

If you have or know of people with ulcerative colitis, tell them about turmeric. This is one disease which we know with certainty that turmeric will help with.

People with ulcerative colitis suffer from problems with digestion. The symptoms only come sporadically. Here’s why turmeric is useful: after eating turmeric, someone with ulcerative colitis will have far less symptoms. Turmeric keeps ulcerative colitis in ‘remission’2. Think of it as a temporary recovery.

In medical studies, the ‘gold standard’ for research is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study3. In one double-blind, placebo-controlled study – in other words, close to the most reliable type of study we have – we found that patients who took turmeric had less relapses than patients who didn’t. Significantly less. If you have ulcerative colitis, I strongly recommend adding turmeric to your diet.

3. Prevent cancer

Here’s a way to decrease your risk of cancer. Animal studies found that turmeric could prevent the growth of tumors 4. We don’t have enough research to know definitively that turmeric reduces cancer risk in humans. However, we do know there is no down side to increasing the amount of turmeric in your diet.

How to Add More Turmeric to Your Diet

Try making some turmeric tea in the morning. And try some curry tonight with a couple of tablespoons of turmeric. Black pepper and oil increase the body’s absorption of turmeric, so eating turmeric in curry is a tasty and smart idea. Your taste buds are almost like your in-house nutritionist – the healthiest ideas taste good.

Turmeric Recipes to Get You Started:
