Feeling tired? Is your pain causing you stress? Here’s what I recommend for my patients.
Get Your Nutrients
We change our body chemistry every time we eat.
Every day, your body suffers countless injuries. Most of the time these injuries are tiny and your body quickly heals them. For example, you make tiny tears in your muscles when you work out. Your body then rebuilds those muscles bigger and stronger. This healing requires raw materials – nutrients.
Note to readers: Be sure to consult with your healthcare provider to ensure you are taking the proper doses of the proper supplements. Some supplements may not be recommended for certain individuals.
When Good Food Isn’t Enough
A healthy diet is always my first line of therapy but supplements are close behind. Over-farming and food processing are causing our food to be less nutritious. The nutrients in the soil are becoming depleted after decades of growing food on the same land and the use of pesticides.
Processed foods are also a problem. For example, whole grains have many B vitamins in their unprocessed state. When these grains get refined and processed the B vitamins are stripped away only for the manufacturers to try and add them back in.
Some of our foods are so over-processed that they cannot rightly be called food.
Some Vitamins We’re Not Getting Enough of:
Magnesium is one of the most common deficiencies in America. A lack of magnesium can lead to painful muscles, weak bones, and unregulated blood sugar. With magnesium, you’ll likely sleep better and experience less pain.
Vitamin D is also largely lacking in Americans. We can get vitamin D from sunshine, but 85% of my patients even in sunny Arizona were profoundly deficient. Vitamin D strengthens our immune systems and prevents diabetes.
Chew on this
The long list of supplements can be overwhelming. Here’s what I recommend: make sure you have adequate vitamin D by having a blood test. Most of us in the Northern Hemisphere will require supplements for proper levels.
